Job Description:

Position:          Unit Head

Location:         Sachin Nearby Surat

Experience:      20 -25 Years

Industries:       Chemical

 

Responsibilities:

      Strategic Planning

  • Develop and execute short-term and long-term plans to support business objectives and drive sustainable growth.
  • Define and implement the Health & Safety strategy in accordance with the HSE policy of the organization..
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and productivity enhancements.
  • Collaborate with senior management to align plant operations with overall company strategy.

     Operations Responsibilities

  • Ensure efficient utilization of manpower, utilities, and raw materials to minimize waste and maximize productivity, optimizing cost-effectiveness and operational efficiency.
  • Supervise and manage day-to-day operations efficiently to ensure strict compliance with quality, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Ensure fulfilment of market / customer requirement by producing right quality & quantity of material as per business plan.
  • Ensure the proper maintenance of plant machinery and ensure efficient operation of the plant.
  • Ensure Production Target Achievement (Plan v/s Actual).
  • Ensure critical equipment and other resources are readily available in adequate stock to prevent any interruptions in plant operations.
  • Ensure yield improvement by taking various appropriate measures.
  • Initiative measures required for maintaining various ISO-systems are in place as per schedule
  • Ensure proper documentation and analysis of incident/accident/first- aid/near misses to minimize risk at shopfloor.

     New Projects Responsibilities

  • Oversee and actively contribute to all aspects of plant expansion and new projects, from inception to completion with project team
  • Monitor the progress of projects, identify any potential issues, and implement effective solutions to ensure timely and budget-compliant project completion.

     Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement and sustain a robust quality control process to ensure that the unit's output meets regulatory requirements and adheres to ISO standards.
  • Ensure customer’s requirements are fulfilled by producing right quality of products.
  • Regularly review and improve quality control processes to enhance overall product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Foster a culture of quality consciousness among team members through training and continuous improvement initiatives.

     Audit & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with various regulatory requirements, including environmental regulations, Scope 3 emissions compliance, ISO standards, health and safety regulations, and licensing obligations, to minimize observations during audits.
  • Provide management with regular reports on the status of legal compliance, highlighting any implications for the business and organization.

     Health & Safety

  • Implement and enforce Health and safety procedures to maintain a secure working environment and achieve a zero-accident goal within the site by ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols at all times.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of each team member at the site. Develop and maintain a safety culture at the site.
  • Ensure periodic training is provided to each team member on the site.
  • Ensure that all key findings of HAZOPs or any risk assessments are always completed and updated.
  • Encourage a near-miss reporting culture. Ensure that major and minor incidents and accidents are thoroughly investigated.
  • Take initiatives to upgrade the standards of Health & Safety in the organization.
  • Maintain the Safety Work Permit system and other safety-related policies and procedures.
  • Identify unsafe acts/conditions, near-misses, and coordinate with various respective teams to eliminate them.
  • Plan and implement corrective actions and preventive actions to avoid any fatal incidents.
  • Ensure safety-critical equipment’s is properly maintained with priority.
  • Ensure team members are aware of the hazards associated with critical processes.
  • Maintain a robust emergency plan.
  • Define and implement MIQA (Management of Industrial Quality Assurance) for each site.
  • Implement and maintain the work permit system.
  • Respond promptly to any accidents or incidents, coordinate with relevant personnel and authorities to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of all individuals.

      Environment Management

  • Ensure the efficient and sustainable operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), to promote the utilization of reusable water resources.
  • Coordinate for timely disposal of chemicals and engineering waste in accordance with environmental regulations and best practices.

      General Administration

  • Supervise the general administration of the site, including overseeing proper housekeeping and safety measures to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Ensure that any proposed changes to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) are reviewed and approved by management before implementation to maintain consistency and compliance with organizational standards.
  • Ensure that management of change is practiced and maintained efficiently.

      Asset Management / Asset Integrity / Maintenance:

  • Oversee asset management, including cleaning, color coding, maintenance, P&ID (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), leakages, etc., to ensure seamless performance of various assets.
  • Continuously review and update asset management procedures and protocols to align with best practices and organizational goals.

      Financial Responsibilities

  • Manage plant budgets and financial performance, including production costs, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
  • Implement cost-control measures and monitor expenses to ensure profitability and budget compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for revenue generation and cost savings initiatives.
  • Identify and implement process improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency and lowering operational costs.
  • Implement industry best practices for resource utilization and waste reduction to promote sustainability.
  • Manage and optimize the utilization of resources, including raw materials, energy, labor, and staffing, to achieve cost-effectiveness and minimize overtime through efficient manpower deployment.

      People Management

  • Provide strong leadership to the plant team, fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
  • Recruit, train, and develop staff to build a high-performing team capable of meeting current and future business needs.
  • Impart proper knowledge about processes and hazards of unit operations to the team to develop a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence.

      PMS

      Improve the effectiveness of the Performance Management System (PMS) by:

  •  Developing SMART scorecards for team members to track performance against objectives.
  •  Ensuring timely completion of goal sheets to set clear expectations and objectives for employees.
  •  Conduct periodic feedback cycles, including mid-year and year-end reviews, to provide constructive feedback and facilitate performance improvement.

Required Skills:

  • Independent Plant Management:

          Demonstrated capability to independently oversee and manage the operations of a plant, ensuring its efficient and effective functioning.

  • Problem-Solving & Decision-Making Skills:

          Proficiency in analyzing complex issues, making timely and effective decisions, and implementing solutions to address challenges and capitalize on opportunities.

  • Technical Expertise:

          Comprehensive knowledge and proficiency in the technical aspects of plant operations, enabling the provision of expert guidance, support, and mentorship to team members and junior staff.

  • Stakeholder Management:

          Ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, employees, customers, suppliers, and regulatory agencies, to build and maintain strong relationships and support plant objectives.
