Job Description:
Position: Machine Shop Supervisor (CNC/VMC)
Location: Ahmedabad
Experience: 3 -5 Years
Industry: Engineering
Responsibilities:

Purpose of the Role
- The CNC Programmer & Supervisor is responsible for complete ownership of CNC machining activities, including programming, manpower supervision, machine upkeep, quality compliance, tool management, and ontinuous improvement. The role demands technical competence, discipline on the shop floor, and accountability for output, quality, and safety.
- Core Responsibility
- This role covers end-to-end CNC department operations, including:
- CNC programming & machining accuracy
- Ensure programs are optimized for cycle time, tool life, and accuracy.
- Shop floor discipline & cleanliness
- Operator training & manpower management
- Tooling, fixtures, and maintenance
- Quality adherence and documentation
- Operator guidance & training
- Ensure operators understand drawings, tolerances, and inspection points.
- Conduct on-the-job training for new operators.
- Resolve operator queries immediately to avoid downtime.
- Maintain program backups with proper version control and naming discipline.
- Shopfloor Cleanliness
- Ensure that operators and helpers clean machines, worktables, tool holders, and surrounding areas daily.
- Implement and sustain 5S practices in the CNC shop.
- Ensure chips, oil spills, and scrap are cleared at defined intervals.
- Take corrective action for repeated operator negligence.
- Production Targets
- Plan daily and weekly CNC workloads in coordination with Production Planning.
- Ensure machines run as per planned shift schedules.
- Monitor machine idle time and take corrective action.
- Ensure production targets are met without compromising quality.
- Quality Control:
- Conduct first-piece approval and ensure repeatability.
- Report to the management if any of the jobs are rejected.
- Coordinate with the Quality team for inspections and corrective actions.
- Take ownership of rejections arising from programming, tooling, or machining errors. Plan daily and weekly CNC workloads in coordination with Production Planning.
- Ensure machines run as per planned shift schedules.
- Monitor machine idle time and take corrective action.
- Ensure production targets are met without compromising quality.
- Investigate rejections and implement corrective & preventive actions (CAPA).
- Manpower Supervision & Training
- Monitor attendance, discipline, and productivity of CNC staff.
- Participate in hiring, onboarding, and skill evaluation of CNC manpower.
- Machine Maintenance Schedule
- Plan and maintain a fixed monthly schedule for machine maintenance, including cleaning of the bed, enclosure, chip conveyor, etc.
- Check lubrication levels, air pressure, and the condition of the air filter.
- Inspect spindle operation, ball screw, and linear guide ways.
- Tooling, Inserts & Consumables Control
- Maintain an updated record of:
- Tools
- Inserts
- Cutters
- Holders
- Ensure proper storage and identification of tools.
- Monitor tool life and plan replacements proactively.
- Avoid tool misuse, loss, or excessive consumption.
- Report tooling requirements in advance to avoid production delays.
- If any tooling item is out of stock, submit an Issue Slip that includes: tool name, size, and required quantity, with signatures from the CNC Department Head (or Assistant).
- Return the same number of used/old inserts to the Store Department before new issuance.
Required Skills
-
Must have fluency in MastermCAM Software.
- Ability to generate 3D programmes
- Adequate knowledge of 4th Axis Machining
- Strong knowledge of CNC machines (turning & milling)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and 3D models.
- Knowledge of tooling selection, cutting speeds, feeds, and machining parameters.
- Experience with workholding/fixtures setup.
