Job Description:

Position:         Manager - Tool Room 

Location:        Zaroli - Bhilad

Experience:     10 - 15 Years

Industries:      Automobile

Responsibilities:

  • Tooling Development & NPD Support
  • Review customer drawings, specifications, and APQP inputs for tooling feasibility.
  • Design and develop plating racks, painting fixtures, jigs, gauges, and handling tools.
  • Ensure tooling supports process capability, appearance requirements, corrosion resistance, and cycle time.
  • Support process trials, pilot runs, PPAP activities, and SOP stabilization.
  • Ensure tool readiness as per NPD timelines..
  • Tool Room Operations & Preventive Maintenance
  • Plan and implement preventive maintenance (PM) for all tooling and gauges.
  • Maintain tool history cards, life monitoring, wear analysis, and repair records.
  • Ensure tooling availability to avoid line stoppage and quality issues.
  • Implement tool identification, traceability, and status control. 
  • IATF 16949 Compliance & Audit Awareness
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949 requirements, customer-specific requirements (CSR), and internal QMS procedures.
  • Maintain and update tool-related documents in line with APQP, PFMEA, and Control Plan.
  • Ensure tooling risks are identified in PFMEA and controlled on shopfloor.
  • Ensure change management (ECN / PCN) is followed for all tooling modifications.
  • Ensure customer approval is obtained where tooling changes impact product or process.
  • Gauge Control & Calibration
  • Ensure all gauges, fixtures, and measuring instruments are calibrated and traceable.
  • Maintain calibration schedules, records, and identification status.
  • Ensure use of approved and calibrated gauges only at shopfloor. 
  • Cost Control & Vendor Management
  • Prepare tooling cost estimates for RFQs and NPD projects.
  • Develop and manage tooling vendors, fabricators, and job workers.
  • Ensure cost-effective sourcing, quality, and timely delivery of tools.
  • Drive standardization and reuse of tooling to reduce capex. 
  • Production & Quality Support
  • Support root cause analysis (RCA) for tooling-related defects and rejections.
  • Implement corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness.
  • Support customer complaints, internal NCRs, and audit findings related to tooling.
  • Ensure tooling supports control plan requirements. 
  • Safety, 5S & EHS Compliance
  • Ensure safe tool room practices, machine guarding, and ergonomic tooling design.
  • Implement and sustain 5S, visual management, and housekeeping.
  • Ensure compliance with EHS and statutory requirements. 
  • Team Management & Competency Development
  • Lead and develop tool room engineers, supervisors, technicians, and operators.
  • Maintain skill matrix, training records, and competency evaluation as per IATF.
  • Ensure team awareness of quality, safety, and audit requirements.
