Job Description:

Position:        Tool Room Manager
Location:       Umbergaon
Experience:   7 - 10 Years
Industries:    Plastic


Responsibilities:

  • Operational management
  • Supervise the daily activities of the tool room, including the issuance, return, and storage of tools.
  • Plan and schedule tool manufacturing, maintenance, and repair activities to support production goals.
  • Provide technical advice and support to production and engineering departments on tooling- related issues.
  • Oversee projects for the development of new tooling for manufacturing.
  • Inventory and asset control
  • Implement and manage a robust inventory control system for all tools, inserts, spares, and raw materials.
  • Maintain accurate records of tool usage, repairs, and inventory levels to track assets and minimize loss.
  • Conduct regular tool inspections and audits to ensure quality and operational readiness.
  • Manage the procurement of new tools, equipment, and consumables, and track spending against budget.
  • Team leadership and development
  • Hire, train, and manage a team of toolmakers, technicians, and apprentices.
  • Set department objectives and key performance indicators (KPIs), and evaluate staff performance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and productivity within the tool room.
  • Quality and safety
  • Enforce compliance with all safety regulations and company policies, and conduct risk assessments of tool room processes.
  • Ensure that all tools meet established quality standards and comply with industry regulations.
  • Implement a preventative and predictive maintenance program to maximize tool life and minimize equipment failures. 
  • Collaboration and communication
  • Collaborate with design, engineering, and production teams to optimize tool design and resolve technical problems.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and vendors for tool development, material procurement, and outsourcing.
  • Provide reports and presentations to senior management on tool room performance.

Required Skills:

  • Technical Skills: Strong technical knowledge of tool design, machining processes (e.g., CNC, EDM), and maintenance management.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.
  • Leadership Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Analytical Abilities: Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Financial Acumen: Experience with budget management, cost control, and procurement.
